I.G.C.S.E. in E.L.S.

What is I.G.C.S.E.?
It is the international General Certificate of Secondary Education. It has
international credibility recognized by all universities all over the world
as well as the American University in Cairo (A.U.C) and the Egyptian
Universities.
It is supervised by Cambridge University. Representatives of Cambridge
University pay unannounced visits regularly to all schools teaching the I.G.C.S.E programme in order to ensure that they are fully equipped and
qualified to each I.G.C.S.E subjects.
What is the educational system like in I.G.C.S.E?
Each subject includes three levels:
• An O.L subject is an ordinary level subject, which means a study of
the core and extended subject.
• An A.S. subject is an Advanced Supplementary subject, which
means higher study of the subject.
• An A.L subject is an Advanced Level subject, which is the highest
level of a subject in the I.G.C.S.E programme.
How many subjects should I take to complete IGCSE?
It depends on the requirements of the university you are applying to. For the
Egyptian universities the requirements are 8 O level subjects.
• If you are planning to go to the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry or
pharmacy, you must have A level Biology OR AS level Biology plus
AS level Physics or AS Chemistry or AS Music.
• If you are planning to go to the Faculty of Engineering then you
must have A level Maths OR AS level Maths plus either AS
Computer Science AS level accounting or AS level physics.
What are the advantages of I.G.C.S.E?
A student has the chance to improve his grade in any subject up to 5 times
in a period of 3 years. Every year he sits for a final exam in June &can
re-sit in November of the same year.

ELS provides:
1- Highly qualified teachers, who are well known for their expertise
in
syllabi, in all subjects, and for their remarkable results.
2- Experienced academic counseling to guide students in their choice
of subjects according to the regulations of the Egyptian supreme
Council of Education, concerning all colleges.
3- Well-equipped Biology, chemistry, physics and IT laboratories as
well as a rich and resourceful library.
4- In between classes and during their free time, students are
allowed to enjoy all school facilities such as the courts, swimming
pool, library, Internet lab, video room, music room and the arts and
crafts room.
5- The school also provides a study room, in which students can
study, revise and do their homework, in-between classes.
6- Regular exams and reports to evaluate students’
progress.
7- Regular meetings between parents and teachers to discuss
students’
academic standard and behaviour.
8- Students and parents have the teachers cell-phone numbers for
any questions.
